Merrick Books is a small company that manages crowd-funding projects to produce deluxe, collector's edition books for small publishers and independent authors, then we distribute those books direct-to-consumer.
We are seeking a self-directed, highly-organized team member who will be responsible for analytical functions at our Houston warehouse location including: inventory tracking, receiving logs, assisting the operations team with the creation of packlists, periodically working with the operations team to call out orders and print labels while they pack, and creating monthly settlements reports for billing & payment. In short, this position will be the bridge between our physical operation and the digital tracking of what's happening. Attention to detail is critical.
Limited hybrid work is possible with the position, but we expect a minimum of three to four days in the office each week. Our location is a light warehouse environment that has climate control and comfortable seating, but temperatures can vary during extreme periods or when someone leaves the door open too long. Hours are typical business hours, with room for flexibility.
We are a small business so we cannot offer healthcare or retirement benefits, but we make up for that with a low-stress environment, flexible work hours, and generous time off policies. If you are a book lover with analytical skills, this is a great way to get involved in the creative process, see how books get to market, and interact directly with authors.
Necessary skills:
- Microsoft Office including
*expert knowledge*
of Excel (a successful candidate will need to demonstrate Excel proficiency)
- Ability to rapidly learn online platforms like: Google Docs, Kickstarter, PledgeBox, BackerKit, Pirate Ship, Slack, Shopify, Quickbooks, Amazon Seller Central, and more
- Excellent written and verbal communication with external partners
- Ability to problem solve and thrive without direct supervision and the ability to work well with our existing team members
- Organized!
Bonus skills:
- Bookkeeping

- Anything related to the book industry
The ideal candidate for this role will have experience in bookkeeping, the book industry, or with eCommerce, will have proven proficiency managing large spreadsheets in Excel, and most importantly will be able to demonstrate great attention to detail to handle accurate financial settlements. We can train you on the details, but we need someone with an analytical mind who is passionate about getting it right!
